8 Days Jordan Classical Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Amman
Upon arrival at Queen Alia International Airport, a representative will greet guests and assist with entry formalities before escorting them to their vehicle.
Transfer to the hotel in Amman for check-in, dinner, and overnight stay.


Day 2: Amman City Tour & Desert Castles Excursion
After breakfast, begin the day with a city tour of Jordan’s capital, Amman.
Start with the Amman Citadel, home to ancient structures including the Temple of Hercules, the Umayyad Palace from the 8th century, and a Byzantine Church from the 5th century AD. The site also houses the Jordan Archaeological Museum, showcasing artifacts from various historical periods.
Continue to the Roman Theater, a 2nd-century amphitheater carved into a hillside with a capacity of around 6,000. It remains a cultural hub for events and performances.

In the afternoon, journey east to explore the Desert Castles, located in the eastern desert:

  • Qasr Kharana: A well-preserved 8th-century Umayyad structure with distinctive buttresses and Greek inscriptions suggesting earlier Roman or Byzantine influence.
  • Qasr Amra: A UNESCO World Heritage site built as a bathhouse in the early 8th century. Its interior is adorned with frescoes depicting daily life, mythological scenes, and a zodiac map.
  • Azraq Castle: Originally a Roman fort, rebuilt by the Umayyads in 1237. Notable for its basalt architecture, large stone doors, and its strategic role throughout history.

Return to Amman for an evening at leisure, followed by dinner and overnight stay.


Day 3: Northern Jordan – Umm Qais, Ajloun, and Jerash
Following breakfast, depart for northern Jordan to visit Umm Qais, an ancient hilltop city with panoramic views of the Jordan Valley, Sea of Galilee, and Golan Heights. The site features Roman, Hellenistic, and Ottoman ruins.

Next, travel to Ajloun to explore Ajloun Castle, a 12th-century Islamic fortress built by Saladin’s general on the ruins of a monastery. It played a key role in defending against Crusader incursions and offers stunning views of the forested hills.

Continue to Jerash, one of the best-preserved Roman cities in the world. Known as the “Pompeii of the East,” Jerash includes temples dedicated to Zeus and Artemis, a colonnaded street, a Nymphaeum, theaters, and churches.

Return to Amman for dinner and overnight stay.


Day 4: Amman – Mount Nebo – Madaba – Kerak or Shobak – Petra
After breakfast and check-out, drive to Mount Nebo, the reputed burial place of Moses. From the summit, enjoy sweeping views of the Jordan Valley and the Dead Sea. Visit the ruins of a Byzantine church and monastery discovered in 1933.

Next, visit Madaba, the “City of Mosaics.” Explore the 6th-century Madaba Mosaic Map at Saint George’s Greek Orthodox Basilica, a detailed floor mosaic depicting ancient Palestine and Jerusalem.

Then, visit either:

  • Kerak Castle: A Crusader fortress built in the 1140s to control trade routes and protect the region. Expanded by successive rulers, it played a pivotal role during Saladin’s campaigns.
  • Shobak Castle: Also known as Montreal, this Crusader castle was built along the King's Highway. Though later captured by Saladin, its remains showcase medieval military architecture.

Transfer to Petra for check-in, dinner, and overnight stay.


Day 5: Exploring Petra
After breakfast, begin your full-day exploration of Petra, the iconic Nabataean city carved into red sandstone cliffs.

Walk through the SIQ, a dramatic narrow gorge that leads to Petra’s most famous monument—Al Khazneh (The Treasury). Continue through the city to see tombs, temples, a Roman theater, and ancient dwellings.

Optional: Hike to the Monastery (Ad-Deir), one of Petra’s grandest monuments. The trail offers a more serene, less crowded experience with breathtaking views. Note: This moderately challenging hike requires good physical condition.

Return to the hotel in Petra for dinner and overnight.


Day 6: Little Petra & Wadi Rum Adventure
After breakfast and check-out, visit Little Petra (Siq al-Barid), a smaller and quieter site with rock-cut tombs and the Painted House, noted for its frescoes. Then head to Beidha, an early Neolithic village offering insights into ancient human settlement.

Continue to Wadi Rum, also known as the Valley of the Moon. This vast desert landscape is a UNESCO World Heritage site and a popular filming location for Hollywood movies.

Enjoy a 3-hour jeep safari visiting highlights such as:

  • Lawrence’s Spring
  • Seven Pillars of Wisdom rock formation
  • Anfashieh rock inscriptions from the Nabataean era

Dinner and overnight at a desert camp in Wadi Rum.


Day 7: Wadi Rum – Dead Sea
After breakfast and check-out, journey to the Dead Sea, the lowest point on Earth at approximately 422 meters below sea level.

Enjoy a relaxing day at leisure: float in the salty waters, apply the therapeutic Dead Sea mud, enjoy spa treatments, or unwind by the pool.

Dinner and overnight at a Dead Sea resort.


Day 8: Departure
After breakfast and check-out, transfer to Queen Alia International Airport for your departure flight.
